Semi-frameless is a hybrid. Specify it as one.

Semi-frameless is the word people use when they want less metal than a grid and more forgiveness than a channel. That is a fair desire. It becomes an unfair specification when nobody writes down which edges are captured.
8.4.6 will not negotiate with the brochure. Framed panels go to Table 8.4.2. Panels or doors with any edge exposed go to Table 8.4.6, toughened, minimum 6 mm nominal. A semi-frameless door often has exposed vertical edges. Say that.
What the perimeter is for
The outer frame squares the opening, carries a header, and gives the tray a line. It can also carry a sliding track. It does not automatically capture the door. If the door hangs on glass-to-glass hinges or a pivot with a free edge, you are in the exposed-edge pile for that door even if the return is framed.
Ask for a sketch that hatches captured edges versus free edges. If the sketch does not exist, the quote is guessing.
Hinges, pivots and the “almost frameless” door
Glass-to-glass hinges look quiet and demand a pane that can take the holes and the moment. Pivot hinges put load into the floor and header. Wall hinges put load into a noggin that may not exist. None of that is a brand conversation. It is a hardware conversation.

Water at the free edge
The place a hybrid leaks is the unframed closing edge. Seals, deflectors and the way the door meets a return decide whether the bathmat lives. A 6 mm door with a tired sweep will still meet Table 8.4.6 and still soak the floor.

Measuring and templating
Semi-frameless is less forgiving than a full grid and more forgiving than a fully frameless channel. Measure like frameless: three widths, two heights, out-of-plumb, tray lip. Decide which wall the perimeter will trust. Write the tile thickness.
Privacy and low-iron
Frosted and low-iron change the look of a hybrid more than they change a busy grid, because you see more glass. They still do not choose the table for you.
